| "Cups and Saucers
are the most complicated pots I make. They offer the greatest formal
and surface challenges because of the dialogue between the cup and
the saucer. Mine tend to be oversized. I like a lot of coffee when
I wake up, and they are intended for everyday use. Unlike the traditional
cup and saucer, they are neither fussy, nor frilly, but rather they
are bold, dynamic, and fluid. The pedestal-like quality of the saucer
makes each one its own treasure." |

"Claireware
mugs are generously proportioned, feel good in the hand, and invite
the lips. Mug making is exciting for me because it gives me the opportunity
to play with the most elemental of all pottery forms, the cylinder.
Each mug is a riff on the form. Whether it is a slight flare at the
lip, or the more dramatic hourglass silhouette, the subtle variations
in the basic cylinder form are endlessly interesting to me."
